I'm so excited!

Nine years ago when I was a new mother in a strange town, I would have loved to have some like-minded friends but God did not bring them into my life.  Through the years, He has given me one here and there but still never any locals.  A couple weeks ago I received a phone call from a local homeschooling mom. My husband had met her at library storytime last winter or spring, but she lost my number and just recently found it.  We decided to start having park days for local homeschoolers.  Our first meeting we had 4 moms and 16 children.  Today, our second meeting, we had 8 moms and 26 children!!  There will be at least one other mom joining us with her 3, and there are 2 babies on the way also!  I'm so excited that in our small town and by only word-of-mouth, we have a good size group and a nice mix of gender and ages.  The children are so happy, too.  It was fantastic today watching the boys (ages 5-11) organize themselves to play football and next week they are planning baseball.  Last week it was raining and while the moms chatted under one shelter, all the children played in the rain for a bit and then took themselves into the other shelter where there is a stage.  They started performing little songs for each other.  I love this group of kids!  They are problem-solvers, who work together well and include everyone big and small.  I am really looking forward to what the Lord has in store for this group.

The best part for me is new mom friends--local ones!!  YAY!  For 9 years I have felt that I didn't have anyone locally to call a friend.  Both last week and today I stood talking to a couple of the moms feeling like we were old friends and I could just chat the day away with them!  I've waited 9 years for this, Lord, and it is so kind of you to bless me this way.  Not only is it fun to know other cloth diapering, breastfeeding, homebirthing, homeschooling, Christian mamas who are local, but the best part is knowing all of these mamas love their children and are happy to be staying home with them.  They are stretching every dollar and I really need to see that we are not the only ones making these choices.  His timing is always perfect!
